Food Packages for 79.8K Ramadan Meals Distributed in Togo

Togo Ramadan 2024

LOME, TOGO April 22, 2024 — Baitulmaal, a Dallas-based international humanitarian nonprofit, recently distributed food packages that provided 79,800 meals to families in Togo in time for the Ramadan season.

Food packages that included items such as rice, pasta, beans, canned goods, tea, and cooking oil were delivered to families in the Lome region.

According to Elora Bashir, program operations manager at Baitulmaal, over 600 of these meals were provided during a community iftar where families came together to break their fast with Baitulmaal.

“Families in Togo have endured severe acute food insecurity over the years,” said Bashir. “Our donors generously filled stomachs and hearts with compassion this Ramadan.”

According to the World Food Programme, food security in Togo has sharply deteriorated in 2024. Key contributing factors include spillover effects from the Sahel crisis, inflation of food and agricultural inputs due to the Ukrainian crisis, and extreme effects of the climate crisis.

In addition to this distrubution in Togo, Baitulmaal has previously provided fresh meat for Udhiyah and Ramadan packages. If you would like to learn more about or contribute to these programs at Baitulmaal, please visit their website at Baitulmaal.org.
