Fresh Meat for More Than 14.8K Meals Distributed to Orphans, Families in Yemen

Yemen Udhiyah 2024

ADEN, YEMEN July 5, 2024 — Baitulmaal, a Dallas-based international humanitarian nonprofit, recently distributed fresh meat for 14,835 meals to impoverished families in Yemen as part of the Islamic season of Udhiyah.

Approximately 2,405 families living in Taiz were given fresh meat from locally-sourced and humanely-slaughtered sheep.

Many of the beneficiaries were orphans and families who have been left vulnerable due to years of conflict in Yemen, according to Elora Bashir, program operations manager at Baitulmaal.

“Children in Yemen have endured unimaginable hunger over the years,” said Bashir. “Our donors provided some relief by providing fresh meat for thousands of hungry children.”

According to UNICEF, more than 2.2 million children in Yemen are acutely malnourished, including nearly more than half a million children facing severe acute malnutrition, a life-threatening condition.

In addition to providing fresh meat for Udhiyah, Baitulmaal has also provided Ramadan food packages, delivered more than $4 million in medical aid, constructed solar-powered water wells, and provided winter aid and hygiene kits in Yemen.
