Fresh Meat for More Than 14K Meals Distributed to Families in Afghanistan

Afghanistan Udhiyah 2024

KABUL, AFGHANISTAN July 1, 2024 — Baitulmaal, a Dallas-based international humanitarian nonprofit, recently distributed fresh meat for 14,264 meals to impoverished families in Afghanistan as part of the Islamic season of Udhiyah.

Approximately 1,783 families living in the Laghman, Parwana, and Takhar provinces received fresh meat from locally-sourced and humanely-slaughtered cows.

Most of the beneficiaries were orphan families, disabled people, and displaced families, according to Elora Bashir, program operations manager at Baitulmaal.

“Families in Afghanistan have endured unimaginable loss and pain in the past year,” said Bashir. “The power of compassion gave these families something to smile about on the day of Eid.”

The United Nations reports that the aftermath of last year’s earthquake has left over 275,000 people affected, leaving widespread poverty, slow economic recovery, and job scarcity.

In addition to providing fresh meat for Udhiyah, Baitulmaal has also provided Ramadan food packages, and delivered emergency aid to earthquake survivors. To learn more about or contribute to these efforts, visit Baitulmaal.org.
