The Need in Peru
Peru, despite its economic growth, faces significant challenges with food insecurity, particularly in rural and indigenous communities. Approximately 20% of the population experiences moderate or severe food insecurity, with remote areas in the Andes and Amazon regions being the most affected. Poverty, limited access to agricultural resources, and the impacts of climate change—such as unpredictable weather patterns and natural disasters—have disrupted food production and livelihoods. Malnutrition, particularly among children, remains a pressing concern, with stunting rates in some regions alarmingly high.
Humanitarian efforts in Peru focus on addressing these disparities by providing food assistance, promoting sustainable farming practices, and improving access to education and healthcare. By investing in these critical areas, we can help Peruvian communities build resilience, reduce food insecurity, and create a more equitable and sustainable future for all.
